A full WCAG audit takes real time, but you can catch a surprising number of accessibility issues — and the customers they're quietly turning away — in about ten minutes, with nothing but your keyboard and your eyes.
Try to navigate your homepage, a product page, and checkout using only Tab, Shift+Tab and Enter. If you lose track of where focus is, or can't reach a button at all, so can every keyboard-only and switch-device user landing on your store.
Browser zoom to 200% on your key pages. Text that overlaps, buttons that disappear off-screen, or a layout that breaks entirely — all common on themes that were never tested past default zoom — will cost you low-vision shoppers who rely on this every single visit.
Pale text on a pastel button looks lovely and fails contrast requirements more often than not. A free contrast checker (search "WCAG contrast checker") takes seconds against your primary CTA colour combination.
Product images without meaningful alt text are invisible to screen reader users — which, on a store selling physical products, is close to the whole point of the page. "IMG_4021.jpg" as alt text tells a screen reader user nothing about what they're about to buy.
Fill in your checkout form incorrectly on purpose. Is the error message announced clearly, tied to the specific field, and written in plain language? "Error" with no context is a dead end for any customer who can't visually scan the page for a red outline.
None of this replaces a proper audit if accessibility is a genuine priority — but it will surface the highest-impact issues fast, and every one of them is also a conversion issue for someone.
